Certainly sounds promising! Guess I'll remain optimistic.

What a good trailer. We get to see Monev the Gale and, an exciting appearance for manga fans of Livio the Double Fang and other neat things I'm still pouring over.

So Millie is in this show along with her partner! Maybe she won't appear here as frequently as the original anime considering her pure absence from the trailers, but I'm still relieved that we'll get to see her at all.

So now they’re committed to properly adapting the manga? Then why is Meryl a reporter? That was never in the manga.

I'm so sad to have missed this! I'm assuming the room was packed? This was one of those "lottery panels" at anime NYC.

Well, now I'm confused. Your quote says "Millie" and the article itself says "Mery" without the "l" on the end... which could be a spelling of "Millie" too. I'm guessing it's Meryl and maybe just a typo in the article, but I would really love to see Millie confirmed.

It definitely said "Millie" the first time I read it.

It says the article was changed, originally it said Millie but now it says Mery, which is definitely just Meryl

I was wondering about this too. It's obvious that it's not 1:1 with the manga, there's no ifs and or buts about that, but the article makes it sound like it'll morph into a faithful adaptation of the later half of the manga. However, I've seen some comments on social media from people that were there and claim there was a bit more said about it.
For example, I'm quoting part of a Reddit post from a user who claims to have attended the panel and screening:
Quote: | They’re not intending for it to be a 1 to 1 but for it to still feel like Trigun. They also talked about this show’s relationship to the manga and how there’s actually been a manga ending now so they can create knowing how things are supposed to end thematically. They likened it to American comics and show adaptations and how people (in the west) are more willing to accept that not everything is going to be 1 to 1 but the core will still be there and this is another familiar but different take on the story. I think the first episode succeeded in what they described. |
So it seems pretty clear that they're referring to the completed manga for thematic points/ideas/characters/etc, but retelling "the whole story" in a loose sense.
