Maybe one of the really bad ones, but something like Ratchet and Clank(any of the ones on the system) look a billion times better than this does. If anything I would say it looks like a PS2/GCN/Xbox game with upscaled textures and screen resolution.

I think this IP as a whole has overstayed its welcome.

I'm guessing you object to MIA on a moral level. Strongly disagree. MIA is an incredible story. The manga art is immaculate and the anime adaption has remained stellar up until now when there's a few episodes left of season 2.

Disappointing game. It doesn't even let you explore the abyss and forces you down a very linear path.

That sucks that it's not very good, I was somewhat looking forward to it. I also hear there's a horrible issue where enemies constantly spawn where you're not looking making it agonizing to explore and wasting weapon durability.
Hopefully they'll patch the game instead of abandoning it, I might get it on sale if it goes low enough. Definitely not getting it full price

Another wasted potential. But also totally expected. The very first trailer of the game already shattered any expectations I might have for it. I'd even say the rudimentary graphics hearkens back to the PS2 era. I do think the concept of Made in Abyss' world could make for a great game but not if they're just going to straight up adopt the original storyline. Also it needs a bigger budget. It's just unfortunate that almost all game adaptations of anime are just poorly handled (apparently the best ones out there are the SAO ones, but even then they're only mostly mediocre).

There is actually quite a lot of exploration - it's just that you can only find it in the 2nd Game mode, with the original story

I believe you, but it really doesn't seem worth it. I wish games based off of anime would try to be good on their own. Ugh. I know if I continue, I'll probably like it just fine, but this series deserves better than that.

yeah it's loli-shotacon with scat and guro spliced into it regardless of how you see the story's quality. I just can't believe it's something wholly embraced by the mainstream and not just some hidden cult read like most objectively good eroge.

We legitimately don't need another thread derailed into this unless there is specific content brought up in the game itself. There's the episode review thread already.

Come to think of it, most of the sussy stuff is absent from the game (from what I saw), so it really is a moot point in this thread, isn't it?
I'm glad everyone agrees with me that "Into The Abyss," which is basically an elongated tutorial, should have been optional. The real game is the original story mode and the part that follows the anime feels so cramped and linear that it can make a person lose interest before getting to the real game.

You know you could just, not watch the show/play the game right? I know, very shocking.

Can't believe MAGES will have something like this localized and sold in the West but completely forgo localization for something actually good like The Quintessential Quintuplets visual novels which are highly in demand outside of Japan but don't even provide an English option.

Action/adventure games are a lot easier to sell than visual novels in the west. Licensed games may generally be mediocre in most cases but IPs can bring in fans who don't really mind if it's not a truly amazing game or not as long as they delve into an IP they enjoy. Made in Abyss is mainstream enough that it qualifies for that kind of status.

Well, despite the cheap-looking character models in the cut scenes, I think the game is just FINE, yes even the Hello Abyss mode.
I did write about this before...so let me copy paste.
Quote: | The graphics are a bit dated and the character models are kinda cheap-looking but it's very faithful to the anime/manga and the music's really nice. There is a lovely opening song with footage from the anime once Riko and Reg descend into the Abyss together (would be the end of anime episode 03) They both sing the song and it's cute!!
The game itself? IS DIFFICULT!!
What drives me insane is that you can die from ascending too much on the FIRST LAYER. Yeah, the first layer!!! That's not how the world in this is supposed to work!!
I like games where you have to explore a big world and collect things (relics) so I don't really have an issue with the gameplay so far...but just like the real Abyss, it's so easy to get LOST!!
When Riko travels with Reg, he princess-carries her if you choose "Descend" x3 it's friggin adorable heheh
For people who really didn't like some of the lewd jokes like about Reg's...anatomy, those are actually absent so far.
They do mention the strung-up punishment but there is no visual to go with it.
But they sure don't skimp on the gore or blood!
Me: "Hmmm will it really be just like the show?"
Case on the back: RATED MA
Me: "YUP." xD
It's NOT a pretty sight when the Ascension Curse kills Riko. Sad Just like in the series, she gets horribly sick and then (unlike the series), falls down and dies gruesomely in a puddle of blood. It's upsetting enough to watch that when I get lost, I just make her jump off cliffs instead of making her ascend back to where she started from. Lol |
My only other complaint is 'Hello' mode is WAY too short. I thought for sure it was going to end the same place as the first anime season.
I hope they make more games so you can play the whole story again. But if they make one of Golden City arc, that's gonna be pretty messed up.
Quote: | I also hear there's a horrible issue where enemies constantly spawn where you're not looking making it agonizing to explore and wasting weapon durability. |
I confirm this is true and it's annoying.
I still like this game though. Hopefully the next one will have better character graphics. The world itself? Looks perfectly fine, really. The water especially looks good.
