TECHNICALLY, “NOT IT” was a separate episode from that Treehouse of horror. Instead of being apart of the anthology it was its own episode

Well deserved. That was the best Simpsons Halloween episode in at least a decade. Not just for the Death Note parody either, the other two segments were great, too.

Watched this for Halloween and was impressed by the effort put in to make a good-looking anime style for The Simpsons, and not have the story just be a bunch of low-hanging "isn't anime (and Japan) weird though" jokes. Feel like this was a long time coming too -- I recall probably a couple decades back there being some very popular "Simpsons as anime" fanart that repeatedly went viral online.

There was actually an official Simpsons Treehouse of Horror comic book for Matt Groening's Bongo Comics that specifically did the Death Note crossover years ago. It was written by Ian Boothby and drawn by Nina Matsumoto. Sadly I don't think they got any kind of credit or shout out in relation to the episode.

That stemmed from the fanart Nina Matsumoto did of anime in Simpsons style (such as Death Note) a while before that went viral and may be what Cho_Desu is thinking of. (I think she also drew some Simpsons characters in anime style but I believe the anime in Simpsons style pictures were most popular).

The comic is fun, but the plot is completely unrelated to the show. check out this videos for some comparisons:

Thanks, that's the exact fanart I had a vague memory of all these years (and here's her Death Note in Simpsons-style). Very neat to hear she went on to draw official Simpsons comics because of it, including a Death Note-themed one. (These two series have been connected for some time now then!)
